Sewing for the Lord

Stitched with prayer to reflect God’s glory and beauty

The first vestment

For various reasons it took some time to make the first vestment. It’s a monastic vestment. I didn’t have a pattern or vestment to copy as until now we didn’t have any monastic vestments in the parish. All I had was a picture and one that wasn’t showing the shape very well, so getting the shape right was the biggest challenge. Not to waste fabric, I tested on an old duvet cover. It was fun and it seemed to work well. Well, until I started working on a real vestment. The fabric I used for the green vestment behaved completely differently than sheet cotton. For me it was like entering a different world, but it was a quick lesson. Aligning the crosses on this kind of fabric was another challenge, but I found out soon how to deal with it.
I was speechless when I saw it finished.
